Mahalo Guitar Tutorials

I've always enjoyed teaching people of all ages how to play guitar. There's something about watching someone advance and grow through songs and technique that was always so captivating. It's a feel good gig that also helped me become a better guitarist as I was asked to learn new songs in multiple genres at each student's request.

At one point in time I was hired by a company that specialized in producing beginner guitar tutorial videos. I would go into the office about 2-3 times a week making tutorial videos for about 30 songs per week. One week I'm pretty sure we went through every chord you can play on the guitar. It's has been amazing to see the response of "students" all over the world and how much these videos have helped them grow as musicians.  One student from Germany, Einav Deri, has only been playing for a short time, but her experience with the videos have been nothing but positive. She recently sent me this awesome thank you video of herself playing Joan Osborne's "One of Us".

I'll admit it, I may not have known every song I taught by heart (especially the Justin Beiber songs) - but, I would figure out the chords and strumming patterns and would always try to teach in the easiest form possible giving a wide range of future guitarists a better chance to learn a new song. It was a great experience to help educate musicians through my method of teaching while getting slightly more comfortable in front of a camera. Several years have past, and though I'm no longer doing the videos, I still get asked to post up tutorial songs every once and a while to this day. At this point those videos have racked up a total of 2 million views and climbing; reaching viewers worldwide. Like it or not, it's out there on the inter-web for everyone to learn from!

Below is a playlist of 100+ videos of me teaching guitar along with practice videos. If you're an aspiring guitarist and are looking to add some fun songs to your repertoire look no further. And for my friends, it's a good laugh!

The answer to the #1 question I've been asked over the the years in regards to these videos: My guitar is an Alvarez AD60CK - Elixr Custom Light Strings - Planet Waves O-Port.

Music Video | Mary Scholz's "Till I Die"

Mary Scholz's latest record "The Girl You Thought You Knew" dropped mid-February this year and she is still running strong; beginning her 2nd promotional tour throughout the United States this October. Amidst the touring she's somehow found the time to shoot and release her 3rd music video for song "Till I Die". Without further ado, here it is in all its awesomeness:

It was a blast working with Mary on her record - taking a total of about 3 months on my end to take the material she had worked on with previous engineers and co-producing it alongside Mary to turn it into this beautiful masterpiece. Mary had the experience, organization, strength and support to push through every hardship it takes to independently release a record AND independently tour. THAT takes a lot of guts in my opinion. Her journey of success is far from over - and I couldn't be more proud of her!

Tell Me Something Good w/Amy Paffrath

Working with friends to help them release an amazing and unique product with our combined talents is one of my favorite things to do. Fortunately, I have MANY talented friends - one of them being the gorgeous Amy Paffrath. Amy approached me a couple weeks ago asking if I would reproduce a cover song of "Tell Me Something Good" by Rufus & Chakka Khan to kick off each podcast. How can you say no to that? So, I pulled together my editing skills, did some vocal warmups, and pulled in Melissa Paul to add some extra vocal oomph to the track. Hear the results below!

Amy Paffrath - Tell Me Something Good

Amy's podcast, "Tell Me Something Good", is a weekly podcast dedicated to the good news out there. Each week Amy discusses interesting stories, interviews do gooders and shares YOUR good news with the world. She feels we need to shine light on the many things people are doing to better themselves and the world around them. It’s about time we gave credit to those making life easier and happier for all and I couldn't agree more!

Good news. Because you can get the bad everywhere else!
